I purchased a 2nd hand 9ct gold ring from eBay recently, from a seller with 100% positive feedback and feedback score 1000+. The ring was described as weighing over 1g, so I expected it to come with a hallmark. When the ring arrived, I had a good look at it, but found no hallmark (only a "9ct" stamp). As the seller did say that all items they sold came with an full British hallmark unless stated, I contacted them. They put it down to an error while setting up the listing and offered me a full refund if I were to return the ring. I do rather like the ring so am considering keeping it, however I do rather like the assurance of a hallmark and am aware that should I ever want to sell the ring in future (just want to keep my options open), it would be an offence to sell it without a hallmark. Does anybody know if I could perhaps send it off to be hallmarked, without having to register for a punch etc.? I have read that Cookson's used to offer a hallmarking service but this no longer appears to be the case. _________________ gold buyers |
