Quality guidelines
When optimising your Google Places listing, the first thing is to check Google’s own quality guidelines. Naturally enough, Google will favour those listings that strictly adhere to these.
Of particular note:
◦Don’t keyword stuff your business name.
◦List a local rather than mobile number.
◦Only list appropriate categories.

Make sure your listing is 100% complete. Fill out every single field with as much information as you possibly can: opening times, phone number, website, payment options, address, photos. A complete listing will not only curry favour with Google, but offer more information to potential customers.
