Personalised search has been around for a couple of years now and is often considered by SEO professionals to be the scourge of their profession. But is it really that bad? Surely search results tailored to the user’s interests should be a good thing?

Local search
Personalised search is definitely more of a help than a hindrance for local businesses.

For example, if someone living in Brighton searches for ‘builders’, Google will serve results from the same area first. This means that getting higher in the results for the local term ‘builders Brighton’ will have considerable benefit when it comes to people using the more general term.
